March4MHC Challenge | March 4-5, 2021: The march — for access, opportunity, inclusion — continues

MARCH4MHC

Thank you for making our second March4MHC Challenge a huge success!

Over the course of the challenge, a record-breaking 4,843 members of the Mount Holyoke community joined together to help surpass our ambitious goal of 4,000 donors, giving more than $1.3 million to The Mount Holyoke Fund. This tremendous outpouring of support helped us earn an impressive additional $450,000 for MHC, thanks to the generous challenge from a group of anonymous donors.

The result?

More than $1.77 million that will go to work immediately to support Mount Holyoke students.

Congratulations to all of the winning classes in our alum Challenge Donor Leader, Participation Leader and New/Reactivated Donor class challenges (see below). This is the first year that any class achieved more than 160 donors over the course of the challenge, and six classes were able reach this milestone. A hearty thank you to all of our volunteers and advocates for your wonderful outreach. We could not have done this without you!

Thank you for demonstrating the power of the MHC community, proving that when we come together, we can accomplish great things. Your support ensures that “Mount Holyoke forever shall be.”

March4MHC Final Results: $1,779,146 raised for The Mount Holyoke Fund | Total overall: 4,843 donors gave $1,329,146 (129 brand new donors gave $10,845; 923 reactivated donors gave $122,023; 1,791 loyal donors gave a second gift this fiscal year totaling $417,332) | The classes of 1972, 1974, 1968, 1994 and 1984 placed in both the donor leader and participation leader challenges.Click image to view/download PDF.

On March 4–5, join us in supporting the place that has emboldened and empowered so many to press forward for change. Make a gift of any size to The Mount Holyoke Fund as part of the March4MHC Challenge and invest in the future of MHC.

2 days. 4,000 donors. $400,000.

The power of participation:
To help you increase the impact of your philanthropy, a group of anonymous donors will give $50,000 to The Mount Holyoke Fund for every 500 donors who make a gift during the challenge days!

Your gift matters. Every gift matters. When we come together, we elevate and inspire one another to push boundaries, broaden perspectives and shape the future. Learn how you can get involved:

This is a real Community Challenge, meaning any alum, student, faculty, staff or friend of the College is welcome to participate! With that said, each donor will only be counted once, so encourage all of your classmates, friends and family to join the fun so we can earn the full $400,000 in challenge funds.

The challenge starts at 12:01 a.m. EST on March 4. The GiveCampus page will remain open until 11:59 p.m. PST March 5, to allow those on the West Coast to get their gifts in.

On March 4–5, make your gift via:

  • GiveCampus
  • PayPal
  • MHC website
  • Venmo | @mountholyokefund1837 (Be sure to include your name, class year and email address.)
  • Phone (800-642-4483/800-MHC-GIVE). Must call between 8:30 a.m.–5 p.m. EST. (Please note that you may need to leave a voicemail with your name and phone number and someone from the Office of Development will return your call.)

*If you have questions about how to make a gift, please reach out to marylyon@mtholyoke.edu.

The Mount Holyoke Fund (MHF) is the College’s annual fund. (MHF gifts are not part of the endowment!) MHF gifts are put to work immediately to support the College’s most pressing needs and impact all aspects of campus life — providing funds to recruit and retain the best faculty, financially support our students, update state-of-the-art learning environments, and keep Mount Holyoke’s 800-acre campus beautiful. Learn more about The Mount Holyoke Fund.

This year, the College’s funding priority is raising funds in support of scholarship aid for current students. Last year 73% of Mount Holyoke students received scholarship aid, and the College awarded $53 million in scholarship funds. We expect the need for financial aid to continue to rise.

There are five destinations to choose from:

  • General Scholarship Aid
  • First Generation Student Scholarship Aid
  • Frances Perkins Scholarship Aid
  • International Student Scholarship Aid
  • Mount Holyoke Fund Scholars Program (Gifts of $10,000 or above)

There are a number of different gift destinations you can choose from when you make your gift, which will ensure that your support makes a difference where it matters most for you. You can choose:

  • Academic Enrichment
  • Athletics
  • Campus Preservation
  • Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)
  • Employee Emergency Fund
  • Faculty
  • Library & Archives
  • The Lynk & Career Preparedness
  • Scholarships
  • Student Life
  • Student Safety Net Fund
  • Sustainability
  • Technology & Teaching Tools
  • Wherever MHC needs it most

Thank you so much for your support! Only gifts made during the challenge count towards the goal of 4,000 donors. Please consider an additional gift of any size during the challenge days to be counted.

While you may certainly make multiple gifts during the challenge, you will only be counted once as a donor. Multiple gifts will not help to increase the overall donor count or your class donor count. (FPs, however, may make a gift both to the FP class and the class that they graduated with. Their gifts will be counted once for each class for purposes of the class challenges, but they will only be counted once towards the overall goal of 4,000 donors.)

Thank you for your ongoing support! If you set up a new sustaining gift during the challenge, that will be counted for the challenge. If you are already a sustaining donor, you can make an additional gift of any size during the challenge days and you will be counted.

Gifts from the entire MHC community, including family and friends of the College, will count towards our overall 4,000 donor goal. However, gifts from family and friends of the College will not count towards the class-based challenges (to win prize funds towards your class gift) because those class challenges are focused on alum gifts.

Please contact us at marylyon@mtholyoke.edu or 1-800-MHC-GIVE (1-800-642-4483). We can discuss your options for participating in the challenge, including making a pledge that can be fulfilled by any of these methods by June 30, 2021.

You will be able to set up a match or a challenge on the GiveCampus page starting on March 3.

If you chose to make your gift anonymous through GiveCampus or if you gave through one of the other ways of giving (via the MHC website, PayPal, Venmo or over the phone), we will not publicize your name. We will make sure you are counted in the donor and dollar totals, however! If you have questions about whether your gift was included, you can reach out to marylyon@mtholyoke.edu.

Preliminary results and the Challenge Donor Leaders (15 classes with the most donors) will be announced on this landing page on Tuesday, March 9. Final results and the winners of our other class challenges will be shared when all gifts have been fully processed and reconciled.
