"Will's consistent personalization and recognition made an impact and created confidence."

"Will, because we met, I stopped fearing statistics, aced my graduate neuropsychology classes, and can still find my way through the pharmacology small print in a drug ad. Because you help up the highest standards, I came to see myself as an achiever. Thank you!"
Dr. Nechama "Diny" Capland FP'06

Carol Barrett, because we met...

By MHC Advancement on November 11, 2015 at 1:09 PM

"Dear Carol—You introduced this suburban Boston girl to the wonders of Manhattan, good museums, and theatre. You always modeled decorum, steadfastness, intelligence, warmth, and loyalty, and remain for me a model of what Mount Holyoke women are at their core.

Jessica Avery '15 with Janet Lansberry, assistant director of the Weissman Center for Leadership

"Janet, I met you after I learned about the Weissman Center for Leadership on campus. You helped me in finding internships, attending seminars, and participating in LEAP. Your support and encouragement played a huge role in my decision to pursue a career in the public service sector, which I am now working in. And, you continue to show me this unwavering support even after I have left Mount Holyoke.

Janet, because we met, I learned how to be a leader who inspires." —Jessica Avery '15

Jane, because we met...

By MHC Advancement on October 29, 2015 at 1:00 PM

Jane F. Crosthwaite, Professor Emerita of Religion

"I was 4 years out of MHC, with a Peace Corps stint and a disappointing attempt at graduate school behind me. I was working in my major field and not happy. Jane Crosthwaite, my former professor and then neighbor, told me to make a list of everything I might like to do. She then helped me make a list of my strengths, those things I did well. That skill list showed me possibilities I never considered. And led to my applying to dental school.

Now, nearly 15 years into my career, I am teaching newly graduated dentists, seeing my own patients, and wake up every morning excited to face another tooth.

Jane, because we met, I found a career I love." —Sheree Morgan '88

Giullietta, because we met...

By MHC Advancement on October 28, 2015 at 1:08 PM

Students and crew of the Sea Education Association's (SEA) Semester S-191 in Honolulu, Hawaii in 2004.

"Giulietta, I still tear up when I think of the day you and Gail [Hudson '60] welcomed my ship at the dock in Honolulu. There I was, sad that no one will wait for me because my family was far away, only to look up in disbelief to see that two smiling MHC women were the only people at the dock! Welcoming not just me but our entire ship.

For whatever reason, you gave me so much love and care and made my time in Hawaii unforgettable: from my internship at the Governor's office to the apartment near the beach to my getaways on Maui.

Giullietta Swenson, because we met, I was able to call paradise my home, to care for it and appreciate it like you do. Thank you from all my heart." —Natalia Stefanova '05

Julie Pons, because we met...

By MHC Advancement on October 22, 2015 at 2:30 PM

"Thank you for being a true friend and Mount Holyoke sister to me." — Juliette Teinturier '13, with Julie Pons '11

"Because we met at brunch in Abbey in Fall 2009 through a mutual friend, we became inseparable, always laughing through thick and thin!

I can still remember studying with you for finals in the library during mid-terms—you would help me with my French assignments and I would correct your English emails. Not only has our friendship enabled us to understand different cultures, but it has also helped us open our minds to different points of view. What I mean is that although you and I have very different personalities, we find common ground in our values and joy for the little things in life, like Milk and Cookies at Mount Holyoke College! Thank you Julie Pons '11 for being a true friend and Mount Holyoke sister to me, cheers to many more years of sisterhood!

Professor Hartley, because we met...

By MHC Advancement on October 15, 2015 at 3:45 PM

Professor James Hartley and Mallory Cohn '08

"When I signed up for Professor Hartley's first-year seminar, I expected to learn a thing or two about great books. I didn't expect to gain a mentor and friend that would be my mainstay throughout my college years, whose door would always be available for intellectual conversation, goofy chats, and (most important of all) deeply felt encouragement and support. I'm 7 years out of college, and yet on a recent trip back to campus, I found that nothing had changed. At a time of deep personal doubt, I was given the gift of his abiding faith in my abilities as a scholar and teacher.

Jim, thank you for being the kind of support that never falters. Because we met, I have the confidence to soldier on." —Mallory Cohn '08
