Anqa Khan ’17

Anqa Khan ’17 hails from Jersey City, New Jersey. She double majors in biology and film studies. She hopes to practice urban medicine in underserved communities like her own and is interested in the communication of public health information through various media. Khan is involved with the new First-Generation Low-Income Partnership (FLIP) on campus, and is the cofounder of the MHC chapter of the Minority Association of Prehealth Students. Her favorite quote is from the Quran (94:5-6): “Verily, with every hardship comes ease.”

Two lenses, one worldview

“That’s so interesting!”

I smile politely as yet another person reacts to finding out that I am a biology and film studies double major. I’ve always struggled with responding to that statement. It definitely is interesting—that’s why I’m studying the two! But for me, these two disciplines, which seem galaxies apart for some, simply use two different lenses to understand the world: one through a microscope, the other through a camera.
